One less thing to worry about

According to W3 Counter the use of IE5 is right off the map - does that mean I can stop worrying about my CSS not working in IE5?

and a few more things…

Filed under: Uncategorized — Diana Condolo @ 6:27 pm

Always carry a safety pin - buttons have a way of popping in a most inconvenient way (and location).

Always be prepared to be a sole speaker at a presentation with all the necessary files and equipment - even if you are expecting someone else to present with you - they may be delayed or not show up.

Wait to make your pharmacy purchases until you have a good quantity of items to buy and Shopper’s Drug Mart is having its 20x Optimum points event - you will make a lot of points that translates to $25 off my next purchase.

Listening to jazz is nice but it is awesome when you listen to it live at the Distillery District.

Ten Things I Learned this Week

Filed under: Eeks! — Diana Condolo @ 4:17 am
  1. The moon is a quarter the diameter of the Earth and thus provides a steading gravitational influence on our planet - it keeps the Earth spinning at the right speed and angle needed to support life.
  2. Scientists believe that the Moon was created when an object the size of Mars slammed into Earth and blew out material which clumped together to form the moon.
  3. Raindrops would pound us senseless if we didn’t have the atmosphere to slow them down.
  4. The larger the star, the more rapidly it burns. So, if our sun happened to be ten times larger, it would have burned out after ten million years instead of ten billion years and humans would never have made it on the scene. Our sun is about 5 billion years old.
  5. The elements an organism needs is dependent on their evolution. Cattle evolved in areas of Europe and Africa where coper was abundant and therefore they need quite a lot of it. Sheep evolved in areas of Asia Minor where copper levels were poor and therefore require less - if there is excess copper in their food it accumulates in their liver with toxic effects. It is funny to think that sheep and cattle now graze side by side.
  6. The flattened top of a storm cloud is located at the boundary between the troposphere and stratosphere - an invisible ceiling in our atmosphere.
  7. An asteroid travels at such high velocity that when it enters the Earth’s atmosphere, the air beneath it wouldn’t be able to get out of the way but would be compressed - compressed air is fantastically (60,000 Kelvin) hot and would blast everything within 150 miles to oblivion in an instant.
  8. Ancient Egyptians used crocodile dung as an ingredient in a spermicide to prevent pregnancy.
  9. Yellowstone is a supervolcano - sitting upon a massive reservoir of molten rock that heats all the geysers, hot springs, and popping hot pots. The pressure of magma on the crust above has lifted Yellowstone 1,700 feet higher than it would have been.
  10. The ash fall from the last Yellowstone eruption covered much of the nineteen western states and parts of Canada and Mexico - if you shoveled the ash up it would bury New York State to a depth of sixty-seven feet.

Too Much Pissing Off Going On

Filed under: Furballs — Diana Condolo @ 5:41 am

Ok, stop pissing around people. Oh, I know the people that read my blog don’t do it, but they know someone who does. Milene said Mr. A was pissing on her house and Warren said a man was pissing on a van in full view of onlookers waiting for the bus at the Keele subway stop. I went downtown on Saturday and it positively stank on Queen West - people obviously have been peeing all over the place probably due to Friday night partying. We went for Ben and Jerry’s ice cream but could not find a decent place to sit because of the stench. Finally (because I am a meandering cat who knows her alleys) we found a charming little nook at the Church of St. George the Martyr where we could savour our ice cream without the malodorousness left behind by people now long gone.

Guys - please, please find a rest room when you have to go - you are really making things unpleasant for the rest of us.

City planners - it is imperative that we do something about the lack of public restrooms - to improve the quality of life for the residents here and make it a more desirable city to visit for tourists. Have a look at this site - there is a hilarious movie with an urinating-predator intro.

TTC folks - there really is a need to have more public restrooms on the subway line to make the TTC the better way.

A Week of Mishap

Filed under: Eeks! — Diana Condolo @ 7:48 am

Sunday - my mother has her foot squashed by the wheelchair she is pushing. What a lovely mother’s day!
Monday - the shoes I wore to work keep falling off my feet. The ballerina slipper shoes I keep at my desk also refuse to stay on my feet. I shuffle across to York Lanes with Susan to get coffee.

Tuesday - my watch comes apart and is almost lost. Almost found myself without time.

Wednesday - my belt breaks and I have to run around downtown holding my pants up. I swear that thinking a belt is an easy solution to loose pants is the stupidest idea I have ever had. I must go shopping for pants and shoes that fit - a serious challenge for me!

Thursday - a bad night’s sleep because of the crew outside fixing the power lines and fallen tree because of the storm. My headphone wire twists like crazy around my face and the bus seat i am sitting on is wet.

Friday - I schedule my day around a visitor that I thought would be coming over - but it turns out I was wrong - it would have been a more productive day if I had just gone in to work - I mean I was working anyways on my non-working day. On the positive side, I had a creative idea for the project I am working on.

Saturday - the necklaces in my jewelery box are all tangled that I can’t wear them, a piece of the frame with my dad’s photo breaks and will not stand upright anymore, visitors are coming but I won’t be here, the vacuum sucked up my cat’s toy mouse, I want and need a good work out but circumstances do not permit, my stomach is upset, my head hurts, and I am very tired.

De-stress Tips from Ugly Betty

Filed under: Culture — Diana Condolo @ 8:06 am

When I saw the ad for Ugly Betty this week, one of the guys who works with Betty was doing a breathe in - breathe out routine that is popular in yoga and other relaxation methods. In addition to breathing he was saying something about breathe in [someone’s name here], breathe out Colin Farrow - with the idea that you are releasing everything you don’t like [esp. personality traits] with the breathe. I would like to know who he is breathing in. I didn’t watch the show and I usually don’t watch more than a few minutes of it - but I know there are a lot of you out there.

Anyways, I am in need of a more powerful relaxation technique than just breathing in and out so I am going to try the Ugly Betty co-worker technique. One suggestion was breathe in Madonna, breathe out Paris Hilton but it really isn’t the right mix. How about breathe in Bugs Bunny, breathe out Daffy Duck? Nope! How about breathe in Audrey Tautou, breathe out Britney.

I am open to suggestions.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Filed under: Purrr — Diana Condolo @ 11:32 am

Me and my kitties

Me with my two kitties- love them to bits!

Mother’s day photos

We had a lovely walk in High Park after brunch at Grenadier Restaurant.

No, I do not dye my hair - it just looks different in the lighting.

Please excuse the poor quality photos today - I had accidentally left the focus at 1 meter.
