Happy Peanut Butter Lover’s Month!

Filed under: Culture — Diana Condolo @ 3:02 pm

November is National Peanut Butter Lover’s Month. Since I enjoy the stuff, I think I will find more ways to eat peanut butter this month. Why not? It is good for you after all. Here are a few good things about peanut butter:

  • It’s a great source of protein
  • It has no cholesterol
  • It’s very low in transfat and the natural types have no transfat at all
  • It’s also packed with magnesium, folate and niacin.
  • One half of one percent of the American Population has a peanut allergy
  • John Harvey and W.K. Kellogg owned the first patent for making peanut butter
  • A peanut is a legume
  • Arachibutyrophobia is the fear of getting peanut butter stuck to the roof of your mouth
  • North Americans eat about 3 pounds of peanut butter per person each year
  • When making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, 96 per cent of people spread the peanut butter on before the jelly. Personally, I prefer to spread the peanut butter on one slice and jelly on the other. It just spreads more clean and evenly that way.

If you would like to find some peanut recipes, try looking at peanutbutterlovers.com for ideas.

Whether you eat peanut butter when you are together with family, friends, squirrels, or you prefer to just eat it alone — I just want to wish you a very happy peanut butter lover’s month!

    Hi :D,

    Bert here.

Let’s not forget that peanut butter was also a favourite of Elvis’s. He liked it in a sandwich, grilled with bananas. I found a recipe for it which I’ve included:

Elvis Presley’s Grilled Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich

    * 2 slices of white bread
    * 2 tablespoons of smooth peanut butter
    * 1 small ripe banana mashed
    * 2 tablespoons butter

Spread the peanut butter on one slice of bread and the mashed banana on the other. Press the slices gently together. Melt the butter (or to be truly Elvis-like, melt bacon fat!), over low heat in a small frying pan. Place the sandwich in the pan and fry until golden brown on both sides.

    Happy peanut butter lover’s month.

    Bert

It sounds wonderful! I love peanut butter and banana but I never thought of grilling it. Sadly, I am all out of peanut butter (how embarrassing for me). Tomorrow I will buy two jars to make sure I am stocked up for the month.

    Thanks Bert!

    Hi :D,

    Bert here again.

Apparently some also claim that Elvis would sometimes drizzle honey on top of the bananas before pressing the two slices together to grill. Just in case you like it even MORE sweet!

Oh yeah…if you put nutella on rocks I would eat them.

For that peanut butter recipe I would adjust Bert’s recipe somewhat to make it more nutritious. Instead of white bread, use wholegrain…better yet, get a nuttier bread. Use natural peanut butter, meaning NO SUGAR ADDED…and omit the butter as the banana makes the sandwich moist enough.
