Please Include the Environment in your Resolutions
I hope everyone will consider making some New Year’s resolutions that helpful and beneficial to the environment. The climate change trend is going to change our life in a very profound way and we all need to make changes in our daily lives to help the situation. I know most of us want to do the right thing for Earth and desire to treat our planet with respect to make sure that it stays vibrant and bountiful. And while good wishes are genuine and heartfelt, we need to be active in order to have an impact on the world. As a friend said to me, all other issues don’t mean a thing if the planet is destroyed: Without a healthy planet to live on other problems such as a poor economy, diseases, poverty, or war are all non-issues.
As per an article in The Toronto Star, here are a few things that will change if climate change continues:
- Guacamole won’t be quite as abundant as it is now. With the hotter temperatures California’s avocado production will be reduced by 40 percent over the next 40 years.
- Two-thirds of the polar bears along the Western Hudson Bay area will disappear by 2050.
- The cold winters have kept the black-legged ticks that carry Lyme disease (which causes serious symptoms like paralysis) from infiltrating Ontario. With the milder weather they will thrive and expand their territory to the point where we would be foolish to go on the grass wearing shorts and sandals.
- The blue-green algae will bloom in Lake Ontario. The water tastes musty and taking a shower is a smelly experience. Not pretty!
- The decline of the Emperor Penguin — with warm winter temperatures breaking up the sea ice early, their eggs and chicks are being swept out to sea.
We don’t want to see these changes, so let’s act now!
PS Happy Birthday, Rowan Atkinson. I love you!!!

Don’t forget that without peace, love, friendship and caring that a beautiful environment is lost in hate.
With the snow gone I see an awful lot of litter. I cleaned up my frontage…come on people…it is beautiful temperature wise….get out there and clean up…make your little part of the world a little bit cleaner. Hey, how about you neighbours that don’t recycle…I know who you are…stop being lazy and uncaring and do your part…it doesn’t take much.
Did you hear about China not giving out grocery bags any longer. Well, if I don’t get grocery bags then I have to go out and buy poop bags for my dog and my cat litter and for all my small garbage cans…not to mention that I reuse used grocery bags in stores that sell grocery bags. Plus I use these bags to donate clothing every once in a while. We also recylce plastic….so what is the deal with China not giving out grocery bags? I used to work in a grocery store and many customers refused to pay a nickle for a plastic bag. They were more then welcome to use used boxes we kept in front of the store but there were days that boxes were scares. Cotton bags are a good idea….reusable and washable…still I need poop bags….3 or 4 per day…that is a lot.
I would love to buy a vehicle that uses less gas but they are costly. I would love to park the van and use a Yaris or Smart Car or a hybrid of some sort. Anyone out there willing to trade a van for one of the cars above?
Have you noticed that there is only one person per car driving on the highway? Not all but far too many. If I worked in Toronto I would welcome paying someone to drive me there. There needs to be someone well organized to connect those going from and to the same location.
I wish smokers lived in another planet.
How about noise pollution???? Is there a law against NOISY cars?
We use natural products in our business.
I walk to the stores…but then, they are on the same street I live…plus I really don’t like shopping much and so stay away.
I eat everything on my plate.
I buy second hand clothing.
I only do a full load of laundry.
I recycle.
I try to do my part.
Talking about Rowan Atkinson…I would love to watch his recent movie…I never did make it to the movies while it was playing. Happy Birthday!!!! He acts like a juvenile….I like that.
I am very aware of the detrimental effect of climate change…but it takes us all to participate and I am sure that you all out there are not doing your part may say, “let the next person do it”…not good. We only have one planet!!!!!!
Basically, if you pollute your body then you may think it is your problem…but if you think about it…..not really, it affects everyone around you and also the health system. So take care of yourself NOW.
