Good Business Practice

After much talking and thinking about it I finally bought a new computer yesterday. I placed the order by telephone and they said it should be delivered to me within the week. I’m so looking forward to it!!! I got a 22 inch monitor and with my existing 17 inch monitor I should have a decent amount of screen real estate — that is something that is very important to me but that is beside the point of this post. My main message is that I just hope that it actually gets delivered to me: after I placed my order by phone the sales clerk sent my a list of specifications that I requested. It was all correct but they recorded the wrong postal code for my address. I emailed right back (< 2 minutes) but I got an out of the office until Saturday reply. I called the company but they said to call the next day when the office is open -- even though they advertise that they are open 24/7! So I called the next day and they said they can't change the info in the system. The information is like a contract and that can't be changed. Holy Santa Cleopatra!!! They said that I will need to watch the delivery status online and when the status changes to shipping I need to contact them at that point because all they can do is change the sticker on the package, they can't change my address in the system. Isn't that ridiculous! It should not be too difficult to change a customer's address and it is a very important function for a business to do so because it is their business to serve customers and to ensure that the customer gets the merchandise. This company should take a good look at its business practice and make some changes right away.

Looking forward to my new computer!

I feel your frustration. You did all the right things and it was an employee’s mistake plus you MUST receive what you paid for. Even though several issues didn’t feel right, like saying they are open when they are not or telling you that “your address is like a contract”….ridiculous….it most certainly most be corrected!!!! You should have posted their company name so others will not purchase from them. WRITE THE COMPANY NAME AND WE CAN ALL PROTEST…they will soon enough change their inconsiderate ways.

    The company was Dell.

I seem to have bad luck with computer sales centres. I bought my last computer at Computer Systems on College Street. They took my money readily enough but when I tried calling them because I was having a computer problem they never picked up the phone or returned my calls. I am boycotting them.

Let’s see how my experience with Dell goes. The people I spoke to were friendly and apologetic for the limitations of their system.
